Join Ann Francke, CEO, Chartered Management Institute, and Michael Jenkins, CEO, Roffey Park Institute as they deep dive and discuss topical issues on Women in Leadership and Compassionate Leadership respectively. 

Ann Francke will explore the complex issue of the gender pay gap and address issues like unconscious bias, and discuss how inspiring emerging leaders and nurturing female talent are critical to closing the gender pay gap whilst recognising there is still a lot of work to be done to achieve gender balance in the workplace.

Michael Jenkins will examine the role of compassion in the workplace and how leaders can reposition compassion in a way that is meaningful, actionable and delivers results and how organisations are 'missing a trick' by overlooking the human dimension of productivity - understanding the dynamics of work and the relationships we have with our managers and colleagues.

The two 20 minute talks will be followed by a Question and Answer-led panel discussion moderated by Dr Flocy Joseph, Programme Director for SMU Executive Development.

Ann Francke

Ann Francke

Ann is a transformational leader with vision, pace and proven ability to deliver profitable growth and build organisational capability.At CMI, she uses her experience in leading organisations to promote best practices in management and leadership, and improve management standards across the UK and beyond. Ann has been named in the top 100 women to watch in the 2015 Female FTSE report from Cranfield and is an expert on current challenges facing women in the workplace.

Ann is Strategic Advisor at Tongal and a Non-Exec at Grant Thornton International.She is also a member of the CRUK Women of Influence Board, WACL, MGGB and an Advisory Board member of Lancaster Management, Nottingham Trent and the Open University Business Schools.

Prior to CMI Ann was Global General Manager at the British Standards Institution, held executive board positions at Boots and Yell and was European Vice President at Mars. Ann began her career at P&G and managed a variety of international brands including Pampers, Always and Olay before rising to global general manager.

Ann holds a BA with Distinction from Stanford, an MBA/MS from Columbia; Honorary Doctorates in Business Administration from UWE and Nottingham Trent Universities and a Doctor of the University from Oxford Brookes.

Ann and her husband live in West London; she has one daughter.

Michael Jenkins

Michael was born and spent his early years in Malaysia. He graduated from Durham University in Chinese followed by postgraduate studies in Japanese language, politics and economics at Nanzan University, Japan after which he worked for Toyota Motor Corporation for four years. 

Returning to the UK in 1988, Michael worked at the University of Bath as Director of the Foreign Languages Centre.  In 2001 Michael returned to Asia as Director of INSEAD Executive Education in Singapore and subsequently worked as Managing Director of the Center for Creative Leadership Asia Pacific.

In 2009 he joined Roffey Park in the UK as CEO.  In 2013 and again in 2016, HR Magazine named Michael as one of the UK’s Most Influential Thinkers in Human Resources. His current focus is on compassion and resilience at work. He is also active in promoting better mental health in the workplace and in exploring cognitive diversity.

Flocy Joseph

As the Programme Director with SMU Executive Development, Flocy crafts unique programmes that augment leadership capabilities in individuals. With her two decades of professional experience, spanning corporates, consulting and academia, she is able to design learning interventions that blend academic rigour with experiential learning for executives. The programmes designed by Flocy include the right mix of content, simulation, exercises, discussions, debates & reflection to stimulate the participants, encouraging them to re-examine and reformulate their professional and personal goals which in turn adds value to the organisation’s success.

Flocy holds a Master’s Degree in International Trade and a PhD in Leadership Behaviours. Her clients include multinational organisations across shipping, health care, aviation, heavy engineering, financial services and FMCG industries, to name a few. She has also designed and facilitated industry specific bespoke programmes.  Well networked, both in Asia and across the globe, she is able to link programme content and map it with the ideal faculty and delivery format. She has an award winning paper on “Sustainable Leadership Practices” and has authored various case studies & articles on leadership related dilemmas.
