Jan Hagen

Jan Hagen is an associate professor at ESMT. Jan’s research and teaching focus is on leadership. He is particularly interested to understand how teams and organizations deal with errors. Apart from articles in academic journals he published the book Confronting Mistakes – Lessons from the Aviation Industry when Dealing with Error (Palgrave Macmillan) in 2013. His research received media coverage in international outlets like the BBC, Financial Times, The Economist, The Guardian, Forbes, Harvard Business Manager, Irish Times, and Sunday Times.
 
Jan directs the ESMT open enrollment program Leadership under Pressure and is the host of the ESMT Error Management Conference. He teaches in executive education programs and human factors training of the German Federal Armed Forces. In addition to his academic work, he has more than 15 years of experience in management and consulting.

Mr Liak Teng Lit is the Group Chief Operating Officer of Perennial Real Estate Holdings Limited (“Perennial”) and Chief Executive Officer of Perennial Healthcare Pte. Ltd.

Perennial is an integrated real estate and healthcare company headquartered and listed in Singapore with a presence in China, Singapore, Malaysia and Ghana. As a real estate owner, developer and manager, Perennial focuses on large-scale mixed-use developments and has a combined portfolio spanning about 54 million square feet in gross floor area. As a healthcare  services owner and operator, Perennial is focused predominantly on China and has a portfolio of over 2,800 beds in the fields of medical, hospital, eldercare and senior housing, and maternal and child health management services. Perennial will soon extend its healthcare business into Singapore with the opening of a premium Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment facility.  

Earlier, Mr Liak was the Group Chief Executive Officer of Alexandra Health System which manages the Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and Yishun Community Hospital in the north of Singapore. He was also the Chief Executive Officer of Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, Alexandra Hospital, Changi General Hospital and Toa Payoh Hospital respectively.

A pharmacist by training, he was involved in the restructuring of major hospitals including The National University Hospital, Kandang Kerbau Hospital and Singapore General Hospital.

Mr Liak is the Chairman of National Environment Agency. He also serves on the boards of NTUC Health, Pathlight School, Civil Service College’s Service Management Advisory Panel, and The Board of Advisors of the Institute of Service Excellence at Singapore Management University.

Mr Liak has previously served on the boards of Alexandra Health System, National Parks Board, National Philanthropy and Volunteer Centre, Singapore Tourism Board, NTUC First Campus, NorthLight School, Southwest Community Development Council, Public Hygiene Council, Water Network, Victoria Advisory Committee and Skills Development Fund Advisory Committee amongst others.

Mr Liak holds an MBA and a BSc (Pharmacy) from the National University of Singapore and MSc (Pharmaceutical Sciences) from the University of Aston, Birmingham, UK.

Mr Liak enjoys running, reading and gardening.

Mr Liak was awarded The Donald C. Brodie Award for Education in 2000, NTUC May Day Award Medal of Commendation in 2003, Health Promotion Board The Health Leader Excellence Award in 2004, Singapore Computer Society Friend of IT-IT Leader Award in 2006, Ministry of Education The Service to Education Award in 2007, National University of Singapore Distinguished Science Alumni Award in 2011, NTUC May Day Friend of Labour Award and The Public Service Medal in 2013, NTUC May Day Award Medal of Commendation (Gold) and the NUS Business School Eminent Business Alumni Awards in 2014.

Neeta Lachmandas

Ms Lachmandas joined SMU’s Institute for Service Excellence in 2015.

She brings to the table 20 years of working experience in the areas of marketing, communications, account management and business development.

Before joining SMU, she led Singapore Tourism Board’s efforts in strengthening Singapore’s position as a premier business and Meetings, Incentive Travel, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) destination; increasing Singapore’s share of the medical tourism and private education sector; and growing the cruise industry.

Ms Lachmandas has taken on leadership roles in a wide range of areas, including manpower and labour policies, technology development and service excellence. In her previous role as Director of Service Quality, she championed and led service improvement strategies and initiatives to raise service standards.

Katharina Lange

Katharina is Executive Director of SMU’s Executive Development as well as Affiliated Faculty at Singapore Management University.

As regards content, she provides expertise in leadership, strategy and entrepreneurship. She published case studies designed to teach in Executive Education classes, including topics of entrepreneurial leadership and business model engineering. She is certified in Hogan, MBTI and Globe Smart.

Prior to joining SMU, Katharina was Programme Director and Head of Practice Group Life Science Industries at the European School of Management and Technology in Berlin, Germany.

She has extensively designed and taught in executive education programs. Her clients include European and multi-national corporations such as UTC, Otis, Sumitomo Chemicals, Mondelez, Barclays Bank, Johnson & Johnson, Sanofi-Aventis , Bayer AG, Skolkovo Foundation, Infineon, Shangri-La, IBM and Bio-Rad.

For Open Enrollment, she directs the EDB-SMU programme on Infrastructure Excellence, ALPINE, and the J&J Hospital Management Programme.
